The Copiah County
Sheriff's Office provides services to an approximate population of
30,000 residents. We have increased neighborhood watch groups
throughout different communities in the county. This is to let the
citizens be a part of a joint effort to rid crime in our communities. The Sheriff's Office has also partnered with the senior citizens of this county to form the Copiah County TRIAD (The Right Information And Direction). The S.A.L.T. (Seniors And Law enforcement Together) Council is the advisory group which carries out the TRIAD activities. TRIAD is the agreement of law enforcement agencies in the county and older or retired persons in the county communities to work together. In July of 2010, the Copiah County TRIAD hosted a Senior Citizen Day, which included entertainment, a health fair, education and awareness on a variety of topics. More than 300 seniors attended the multi purposed event. For more information on the S.A.L.T. Council contact the Copiah County Sherriff's Office. We have a SRT (special response team) that is made up of not only the sheriff's office, but other agencies within the county. This team is highly trained and certified to national standard. Deputies are involved in the local schools teaching students about drugs, the use of 911 and the importance of getting an education. We have an I.C.E. (interstate criminal enforcement) K9 unit that works the main highways running through our county. This unit combined with our narcotics unit has stepped up the intensity on the "drug world" in our county. Overall, the objective of the Copiah County Sheriff's Office is to keep our citizens safe and to let them know that we are here to serve them anyway possible 24/7, 365 days a year. |
